UK weather maps show where temperatures could exceed 30°C as another heatwave threatens Britain

The latest spell of intense heat may be over, but summer does not appear to be finished with us just yet. Although temperatures will return to more comfortable levels for a few days, there are already signs that much warmer air could soon return.

Friday will bring plenty of sunshine to England and Wales, while Scotland and Northern Ireland remain cloudier, with outbreaks of rain and brisk south-westerly winds. Temperatures will generally reach around 20°C in the north and 25°C farther south.

A similar pattern is expected during the weekend. High pressure will remain firmly established across England and Wales, bringing lengthy spells of sunshine and temperatures climbing to around 27°C in southern areas on Saturday.

By Sunday, a weakening weather front will gradually push southwards across the country, introducing cloud and outbreaks of rain to some northern and central areas. However, southern England is likely to hold on to the warmest conditions, with temperatures once again reaching the mid to high twenties.

Sunday is expected to bring the warmest weather of the weekend, with temperatures climbing to around 30°C across parts of southern England beneath prolonged spells of sunshine.

With warmer air beginning to edge northwards from continental Europe, attention is already turning to the possibility of another spell of unusually hot weather next week.
