Britain’s prolonged heatwave is continuing to fuel an elevated wildfire threat, with firefighters already battling blazes across parts of the UK. As temperatures climb back above 30°C this week, experts warn conditions could become increasingly dangerous once again.
Wildfire risk set to rise again as Britain’s heatwave intensifies.Britain’s latest heatwave is not only bringing soaring temperatures, but also increasing concern over the growing threat of wildfires as the hot, dry weather continues across much of the country.
Firefighters have already spent the weekend tackling several major blazes, with incidents reported across England and Wales following weeks of exceptionally dry conditions.
A major wildfire in Conwy, north Wales, forced residents to leave their homes after flames spread rapidly across mountainside vegetation. Elsewhere, fire crews have continued tackling large moorland fires in Derbyshire and Greater Manchester, while further wildfires have also been reported in Hampshire, Durham, West Sussex, East Sussex, Devon and Somerset.
The combination of dry vegetation, prolonged sunshine and brisk easterly winds has created ideal conditions for fires to ignite and spread quickly.
