The exceptionally hot weather across the UK continues this week as the high pressure remains in charge. Though weak showers and odd thunder may bring some respite across the southwest, temperatures are likely to linger around 30°C. When will this heatwave end?

The third heatwave of the 2026 summer has become the longest-lasting hot spell of the year as it enters its second week. A persistent area of high pressure, combined with weak pressure gradients, continues to dominate the UK’s weather, bringing widespread sunshine, light winds, and settled conditions across much of the country.

Tuesday begins on a grey note across eastern parts of the UK as easterly winds draw moisture in from the North Sea. This will bring low cloud, particularly along eastern coastal areas, with the chance of a few light, patchy showers.

As the day progresses and the sun strengthens, the cloud will gradually break up and retreat, allowing for increasingly sunny spells and widely blue skies by the afternoon.
