Britain’s prolonged heatwave is finally set to ease this weekend, bringing a welcome drop in temperatures after nearly two weeks of intense heat. But while it will feel fresher for many, the dry weather is far from over.

After nearly two weeks of exceptionally hot weather, a noticeable change is finally beginning to develop across the UK, with cooler air set to arrive in time for the weekend.

Thursday has brought another dry, sunny and very warm day for much of Britain, with temperatures climbing into the high 20s and low 30s.

Tonight, areas of low cloud will gradually spread inland from the North Sea, although western and southern parts of the UK will remain largely clear. It will also be a much more comfortable night for sleeping, with overnight lows generally falling to between 12°C and 16°C.

A cooler feel for many this weekend

Friday will begin with patches of low cloud across northern and eastern parts of the country, but these will steadily lift and burn back towards the coast through the morning.
