UK weather maps reveal battle between Atlantic low and European heat as London reaches 32°C

A battle between Atlantic weather systems and building European heat is set to create a sharp contrast across the UK this weekend. While some areas experience rain, cloud and fresher conditions, others could see temperatures climbing beyond 30°C.

The contrasting conditions will be driven by two competing weather systems. An area of low pressure positioned to the north-west of the UK will continue to send weather fronts towards the country, while strengthening high pressure over continental Europe will encourage much warmer air to spread northwards.

This battle will become increasingly apparent during the second half of the weekend as the two systems compete for control, producing markedly different conditions across different parts of the country.

The battle between the Atlantic low and European heat

Throughout Friday and Saturday, the Atlantic low will bring further spells of rain and brisk winds to northern and western Scotland, while much of England and Wales remains dry with plenty of sunshine.

By Saturday evening, a weather front will begin to move southwards across the country, bringing outbreaks of rain and increased cloud cover. However, the front is expected to weaken steadily as it encounters the strengthening area of high pressure extending northwards from Europe.

By Saturday evening, outbreaks of rain will begin to spread southwards into Northern Ireland, the rest of Scotland and parts of northern England, accompanied by strengthening winds as the Atlantic system attempts to gain the upper hand.
