UK weather forecast for August 2026: More hot weather on the horizon?

After the current heatwave comes to an end later this week, the UK is set to enjoy a fresher spell of weather. However, the cooler conditions may prove short-lived. Is more hot weather on the horizon?

Wednesday marks the peak of the latest heatwave, with temperatures reaching 35°C across parts of eastern England before a cold front pushes southwards overnight.

By Thursday and into the weekend, a much fresher air mass will have spread across the country, bringing temperatures back closer to the seasonal average.

While northern Scotland will see outbreaks of rain, with showers also possible across parts of Northern Ireland and northwest England, much of England and Wales will remain largely dry.

Any rainfall is expected to be fairly modest, particularly across southern counties, where the prolonged dry spell is likely to continue.

A settled start to August

The weekend should bring plenty of dry weather and sunny spells for many, although one or two showers cannot be ruled out. Saturday is likely to begin on a noticeably cooler note after clear overnight skies, before temperatures recover during the day in the sunshine.

Into early next week, the north and northwest look set to remain the most unsettled, with scattered showers or longer spells of rain at times. Elsewhere, conditions are expected to stay mostly dry, with temperatures around average
