Met Office weather maps show 30C heat – but when will the rain arrive?

Temperatures are set to climb towards 30C by Friday as high pressure continues to bring sunshine to much of the UK. However, a gradual change is on the horizon, with cloud and outbreaks of rain expected to return to some areas over the weekend.

Temperatures will steadily climb through the end of the working week as high pressure continues to dominate the UK’s weather, bringing plenty of sunshine for many. However, signs of a gradual change will emerge by the weekend as Atlantic weather systems begin to edge closer.

Sunshine continues as temperatures rise

Cloud across northern and eastern parts of the UK will gradually break through Wednesday afternoon, allowing increasingly sunny conditions to develop across much of England and Wales. Northern and eastern Scotland will remain cloudier, with the chance of a little patchy drizzle compared with the brighter conditions further south and west.

By Wednesday evening, cloud will continue to clear to leave late spells of sunshine before clear skies develop across much of the UK overnight. Some patchy mist may form across parts of England and Wales, while a few isolated showers remain possible along eastern coasts. Cloud is expected to linger across Northern Ireland and northern Scotland, where overnight temperatures will fall to between 13C and 16C.

Winds turn westerly allowing for temperatures in the east to recover by Friday.
