It’s been a gloomy start to the day with skies across the UK looking grey from all the cloud cover that has developed overnight. This comes as the weekend has finally brought a much welcomed drop in temperatures and some rain to areas which haven’t seen much in almost 2 months. Will this continue through next week?

The cloud this morning has been thick enough to cause outbreaks of light rain and drizzle over western areas of Northern Ireland and Scotland. Elsewhere, it has remained mostly hot and dry, but less warm than previous days.

The rest of the afternoon promises fine and dry weather across England and Wales as the cloud cover starts to dissipate and allows for more sunny spells. There is still a chance of seeing some rainfall in through the day in these more southern areas. Showers will be most common over higher

ground in central and southern parts of England and Wales. Rain likely to spread to parts of England this afternoonThe rain will be more persistent and frequent further North where overall it wil
