UK weather: Temperatures could peak at 35°C this week – but where will the heatwave hit?

Another heatwave is set to develop across parts of the UK this week, with temperatures climbing into the mid-30s. However, the heatwave won’t be felt everywhere as some areas face much more unsettled conditions.

A north-south split is in place once again as high pressure dominates across southern parts of the UK, while low pressure lingers to the northwest.

This will result in much of England and Wales seeing another spell of hot, dry weather, while Scotland and Northern Ireland spend much of the week under cloudier skies with outbreaks of rain.

Heat builds through the middle of the week

The heat will steadily intensify through the first half of the week, with widespread sunshine across central, southern and eastern England allowing temperatures to climb above 30°C.

While much of Scotland and Northern Ireland will face cloud, rain and cooler temperatures, southern and eastern England are entering their fourth heatwave of the summer as temperatures could peak in the mid-30s on Wednesday before gradually cooling down by the weekend

London and East Anglia could reach 31°C early in the week as temperatures continue rising, with some parts of central and south eastern England reaching 35°C by Wednesday.

The combination of strong sunshine, high UV levels and increasingly humid conditions will make Wednesday a hot and uncomfortable day across much of southern Britain.

While southern Britain remains largely dry, the weather will stay far more unsettled across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
