UK Weather: Amber heat-health alerts for the southeast and heavy rains for the north

A north-south split in weather is forecast for the UK this week. While the north may experience heavy rainfall, the south is likely to experience the fourth heatwave of this summer. With such a contrast, read on to be prepared for the weather where you are this week.

Weather fronts carrying heavy bands of rain occupy Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England on Tuesday morning. These showers may extend across the western coasts of Wales by afternoon, before fading eastwards.

Meanwhile, high-pressure ridges through the south bring warm southerly winds, creating a north-south split in the weather. While isolated thunderstorms are possible for the north, elevated wildfire risks persist through the south till Thursday.

Fourth heatwave of this summer is approaching the southern UK this week.

Daytime highs of 28-30 °C can be expected across central and southern England today. Across the north, 19-20 °C can be expected, with Northern Ireland temperatures peaking around 22 °C today.

The temperatures will continue to rise, and hence, nights are likely to be warmer, with temperatures in the mid-to-high teens throughout the country. Even without much humidity, this would make for uncomfortable nights throughout the UK for most of the week.
