The UK remains locked into a mobile Atlantic pattern for the rest of the working week, with an active jet stream bringing rain, showers and strong winds.
However, a northward shift in the jet stream should allow high pressure to build from the south during the second half of the weekend and into next week, bringing the chance of something warmer and considerably more settled.
Blustery showers and strong winds on Thursday
Thursday will start with rain clearing south eastwards, followed by brighter spells across much of England and Wales.

Behind the rain, a west to north westerly wind will feed plenty of showers into northern and western areas. Some will be heavy, while more persistent rain and the strongest winds are expected across the far north.
Cloud and rain will continue this week as the jet stream remains active sending weather fronts towards the UK, but could settled weather return by late September?It will feel cool in the breeze, with temperatures generally in the mid to high teens across northern and north western areas.
