The UK’s intense heatwave is finally breaking, with temperatures set to fall sharply this weekend before rain begins returning to parts of the country. After weeks of exceptional heat and drought, the first signs of a wetter weather pattern are now appearing on the maps.

Friday will bring one final very warm day across southern and eastern England, although the extreme heat of Thursday has already passed. Long spells of sunshine will push temperatures to around 29-34°C across the Midlands, Lincolnshire, East Anglia and the South East.
Further north and west, cooler air is already beginning to arrive, with temperatures generally in the low to mid-20s. A few showers will develop in places, and some could become heavy or thundery, but most areas will remain dry.
