Half of England is now officially in drought, and although rain is finally on the way, not everyone will see the same amounts. Here’s how much rain different parts of the UK could receive over the coming week.
More than half of England is now officially in drought after an exceptionally dry summer, with July bringing just 7% of average rainfall across England and only 1% across southern areas.
Now, forecasters at Meteored are closely watching a large area of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic, which is expected to bring the most widespread rainfall seen in several weeks.

However, while the rain will be welcomed by many, some parts of the country are likely to see far more than others.
How much rain is expected?
Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to receive the largest rainfall totals as weather fronts move in from the west.
Current forecasts suggest Edinburgh could receive around 11 mm of rain, while Glasgow may see approximately 8 mm. Elsewhere, parts of northern England could also see several millimetres of rainfall.
An area of low pressure will move in from the Atlantic on Monday, bringing outbreaks of rain to Scotland and Northern Ireland before showers gradually spread farther south.Further south, totals are expected to be considerably lower. London is forecast to receive around 1 mm, while parts of the south coast could see only a few millimetres of rain.
