Met Office issues amber heat health alert as summer returns with temperatures set to hit 35°C on Wednesday

Summer is making a dramatic return across much of the UK, with temperatures forecast to soar to 35°C by Wednesday. Amber Heat-Health Alerts have been issued as forecasters warn another heatwave is set to develop across parts of England.

Another spell of intense summer heat is set to grip parts of the UK this week, with temperatures forecast to climb as high as 35°C by Wednesday.

The Met Office says high pressure will dominate much of the country through the first half of the week, bringing widespread sunshine and rapidly rising temperatures.

As the heat builds, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued Amber Heat-Health Alerts for eastern England, including London, the East Midlands, the East of England and the South East, from Wednesday morning until Thursday morning.

Yellow alerts are also in force across Yorkshire and the Humber, the West Midlands and the South West.

Heat builds through the week

The latest warm spell is already getting underway, with temperatures climbing into the high 20s across southeast England on Monday beneath lengthy spells of sunshine.

While much of England and Wales will remain dry, western Scotland will stay cloudier with a few showers. Overnight, thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain will spread across Scotland and Northern Ireland, while southern areas remain mild and largely dry.

Tuesday will bring a warm day to large parts of the UK.
