Heatwave conditions to peak today in parts of the UK as National Fire Chiefs issue public appeal

The UK’s fourth heatwave is now under way for southern parts of the UK, with temperatures expected to climb into the mid-30s Celsius through the middle part of the week. How long will this hot spell last for?

If you find yourself in the south-east and east of England, you might already be feeling the heat as the heat continues to intensify.

This comes as these southern parts of the UK is seeing its fourth heatwave of the year with temperatures expected to climb into the mid-30°C today.

There will be a north south split in weather and temperature conditions today

It is a significantly different story for other, more northern parts of the country, as clouds and outbreaks of rain continue in Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England. This is keeping temperatures far lower than in the south, with highs of 19-21°C.

South East and Eastern England to have the highest temperatures today

The weather is also cooler and more showery for Scotland and Northern Ireland, where temperatures are in the high teens or low to mid-20s Celsius.

Heat health alerts and wildfire advice

Because of the ongoing hot conditions, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has warned the rising temperatures could increase health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups. It has issued amber heat health alerts for the East Midlands, East of England, London, and the South East, coming in force today until 09:00 Thursday.
