A cooler weekend may bring welcome relief after nearly two weeks of intense heat, but don’t be fooled into thinking summer is over. While temperatures will dip for many, the weather pattern behind Britain’s latest heatwave remains firmly in place.

After days of temperatures climbing well above 30°C, this weekend will feel noticeably fresher across much of the UK. But while the hottest weather is easing, the broader pattern responsible for Britain’s latest heatwave is changing very little.

Instead of a dramatic Atlantic breakdown bringing widespread rain and much cooler conditions, high pressure is simply shifting its position. That means temperatures will fall back for a few days, but the settled weather is expected to continue well into next week.
