Easter Island is known for its amazing megalithic statues. Easter Island (Rapa Nui) is one of the most remote places in the world that is still inhabited. Within its quarries there are Moai statues still on show – but to the few who can actually access this incredibly remote destination.
That is why the experience is now made available to anyone in the world in digital form.
In 3D you can now explore Rano Raraku – one of the major quarries on Easter Island, from inside your own home.
This 3D model of the Rano Raraku quarry is the first of its kind. It was created by a research team that included Binghamton University, State University of New York. This provides people across the world an experience of the remote island with nearly a thousand of its iconic Moai statues.
“As an archeologist, the quarry is like the archeological Disneyland,” said Binghamton University
