Will polar bears survive the melting of Arctic ice? In Greenland, some specimens are mutating and altering their DNA to cope with higher temperatures.

While several scientific reports claim that polar bears could have completely disappeared by 2100, and perhaps two-thirds of them as early as 2050, some are beginning to resist the ongoing climate warming. A stroke of genius through the modification of their DNA: will they manage to survive thanks to these genetic changes?

What threatens polar bears in particular is the melting of ice and the resulting loss of their habitat, caused by rising temperatures. But researchers from the University of East Anglia in England have noticed something surprising: certain polar bears from south-east Greenland show genetic changes that are not observed in their counterparts from the north.
