Nedim Sladić, explains the reasons behind the well-below average temperatures and what Europe can expect in the transition from late summer to late autumn. Where will have the first snows of autumn?

After unusually hot conditions at the beginning of the third week of September across the Mediterranean, the remnants of ex-hurricane Gabrielle started to stir up more unsettled weather, causing the temperatures to drop down from the mid-30s Celsius into the seasonable low to mid-20s Celsius and ruining the plans for the holiday-makers. However, even colder weather is about to unfold, causing the rapid end of the bathing season.

The substantial temperature drop will abruptly end the summer with the first autumnal snow on cards in the Balkans

Sea surface temperatures along the Adriatic remained pleasant in the last week of September, reaching the mid-20s Celsius, while southeastern Europe experienced increasingly volatile weather. A pronounced cyclonic influence brought abundant moisture on southerly upper-level winds, maintaining relatively high temperatures due to warm seas and dominant air masses, with no significant cold intrusions.

A proper summer killer
