These unpredictable fires are fought on multiple fronts, from the ground and from the air. <\/p>\n<p>Specialist aircraft like firefighting helicopters are vital in tackling blazes, but pilots face dangerous and difficult conditions they aren\u2019t trained for. New flight simulation software developed by researchers at the University of Glasgow could improve their training.<\/p>\n<p>New software incorporates unpredictability<\/p>\n<p>Reaching a wildfire is dangerous; they can spread rapidly and pilots must fly through smoke and quickly changing winds at low speeds before releasing fire retardant or water.<\/p>\n<p>But pilots aren\u2019t trained to fly in these conditions.
