Yellow heat alerts in place today as high pressure continues. Is another heatwave on the way?

Heat health alerts have returned to parts of the UK as the strong sunshine continues to push temperatures as high as 30°C. However, at the same time, northern areas are grippling with rain as an active weather front approaches. How will the weather develop this weekend and is there are heatwave on the way?

We’ve arrived to the end of the working week and a ride of high pressure that has kept England and Wales dry and sunny continues to dominate the weather charts.

However, there is a cold weather front sitting over the North at the moment, with showers in the West of Scotland and some in Northern Ireland. Some cloud also developed in parts of Western England, but this is quickly easing through the morning to allow strong summer sunshine to pass through.

Cloudy skies today, but with plenty of bright and sunny spells

Through the afternoon, most showers will ease and cloud will dissipate allowing for mostly sunny skies and fine weather to prevail. One or two showery bursts still expected for Orkney.

Despite the fine weather, there will be a westerly breeze blowing across Western Scotland which will make it fresher and cooler.

It will feel very warm today across southern England, where the hot sunshine will push temperatures as high as 29 °C in London and the surrounding area, 27°C across Hull, Norwich, Birmingham, Cardiff and Plymouth.
