UK weather: Dry weather continues, but could this weekend finally bring the rain many areas need?

High pressure will continue to dominate the weather through much of this week, bringing more warmth, sunshine and most importantly- very little rain. However, are there signs of a more changeable pattern emerging by the weekend?

Tuesday begins on a similar note to previous days, with high pressure firmly in control and Atlantic weather systems held at bay.

There will be plenty of cloud across northern and eastern parts of the UK to start the day, along with a few light showers across northern and western parts of Northern Ireland, northern Scotland and the odd shower near eastern coasts.

For much of England and Wales however, sunshine will become more widespread through the afternoon.

Warmest temperatures in the south and west

Cloud lingering across northern and central England will keep temperatures a touch lower in some areas, with highs generally in the low to mid-20s.

Further south, brighter skies across South Wales and southwest England will allow temperatures to climb to 26°C or 27°C, while northern Scotland and Northern Ireland remain noticeably cooler, with highs closer to 19°C beneath thicker cloud and a north westerly breeze.

Most places should stay dry overnight with clear spells, although northern Scotland continues to see patchy rain and Northern Ireland could also catch the odd shower.

Little change through the middle of the week

Very little is set to change on Wednesday as the slow-moving area of high pressure remains close to the UK.
