The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season is officially over. It lived up to most forecasters’ expectations. It was an active season with a near-normal number of named storms and major hurricanes, but an above-average number of Category 5 monsters.

(Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery_The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) revised its forecast for this year’s Atlantic hurricane season in early August, calling for 13-18 named storms (with tropical storm strength winds of 39 mph or greater). NOAA predicted 5-9 of them would become hurricanes (maximum sustained winds of 74 mph or stronger), of which 2-5 would strengthen into major hurricanes (with winds of 111mph or greater).
JUST IN: The 2025 Atlantic #HurricaneSeason ends on Nov. 30 with 13 named storms, including 5 hurricanes, of which 4 intensified to be major hurricanes.
