A Met Office Amber Warning for Wind has been issued for Scotland as Storm Amy gathers strength today. The storm will bring very strong winds and heavy rain across much of the north of the UK, but how long will it last?

This morning began damp, with drizzle in the Southeast and cloud with light showers elsewhere. As we move into late morning and early afternoon, Storm Amy will make landfall in Northern Ireland, before spreading to Scotland, Northwest England, and North Wales.
The system has been developing over the Atlantic in recent days, intensified by the remnants of Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda.

From 5:00pm Friday until 9:00am Saturday, an amber wind warning is in force for Northern and Western Scotland. Here, gusts could reach 95 mph, with 60–70 mph more widely inland. Flooding is also possible as rainfall totals could reach 30–50 mm in just 6–9 hours, particularly in western Scotland.
